In a nutshell
Classroom support in schools is vital in helping children reach their full potential – and if working in a support role appeals to you, this course will give you the knowledge you need. You’ll be expected to gain practical experience in a school at Foundation Phase or Key Stages 2-4 for at least one day per week, as an employee or volunteer, and it’s important you arrange your placement before enrolling.
This course is for...
…anyone who wants to work with children in a classroom situation. …anyone who wants to be a classroom assistant or learning and support assistant
Course content
The course recognises the essential support work carried out in schools, and is designed to help progression and transfer across the children's workforce within schools.
It develops knowledge that will be valuable for voluntary and paid workers, through studying a range of units relating to working with children in a classroom situation. Each unit is assessed separately through a range of assessment methods.
Following on from this course, you could progress to the CACHE Level 3 Award or Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements, but CACHE recommends that to cope with the demands of the qualification you should have 5 GCSEs at grade C or equivalent.
Additional information
If you’re working in a voluntary capacity you’ll need to have a DBS check through your placement. This may incur a charge of £44 and can take time.
