In a nutshell

This course provides you with professional status in counselling, and adds to your existing skills and knowledge to develop a wider understanding of the field, with emphasis on experience through a placement.

A Personal Learning Account is a new initiative from the Welsh Government offering you the chance to access free, part-time courses that offer flexible and convenient learning around their existing lifestyle. This includes the AIM Diploma in Counselling Practice.

This course is for...

…anyone whose work might involve counselling, such as nursing, teaching, social work, voluntary work, the police or the armed forces.

Course content

This advanced qualification will enable you work within an ethical framework and develop an understanding of the legal and ethical requirements of counselling. You’ll be expected to make appropriate use of counselling supervision of 100 hours and evaluate your own work. There is a placement which is essential to your personal and professional development.

On successful completion of the course, you can progress on to the Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling or professional qualifications that will enable you to work as a counselling practitioner.

Entry Requirements

You’ll need to have completed the Level 3 Certificate in Counselling.

Additional information

As part of the course, you’ll need a minimum of 50 hours of supervised counselling practice, which should include 8 hours with a single client. You’ll also need to complete a DBS check – we’ll give you more information when you apply.
