This course is for you if...
...you want to study on one of our Access programmes
...you want to improve your numeracy and literacy skills
...you want to develop the research skills essential for Level 3 courses
What will I be doing?
The course will improve both your numeracy and literacy skills to Level 1 Maths and Level 2 English, and you’ll also cover aspects of health, sociology and psychology while developing essential research skills. You’ll be continually assessed through practical and written assessments/assignments, presentations and demonstrations portfolios of work and examinations, eventually achieving:
- Level 2 Skills for Further Study
- Appropriate supporting qualifications to broaden your skill set and meet the needs of industry
What is expected of me?
No academic entry qualifications are required, but you will need to pass a college test. You’ll also need a determination to do well, be keen to improve your numeracy and literacy skills and committed to full attendance.
What comes next?
Once you’ve completed the course, you can either go into employment or move onto an Access to Higher Education course.
To progress on to an undergraduate degree at most British universities, you’ll need to have achieved a minimum Grade C in Maths and English (and Science if you want to train as a primary school teacher). If you want to study Science-based subjects, or Midwifery, you’ll also normally need a B in Science.
