In a nutshell
The course aims to develop a critical awareness of Politics and the relationship between political ideas, institutions and processes in modern Wales and beyond. The course will also look at the structures of authority and power within the political system of Wales and the United Kingdom and how these may differ from those of other political systems, especially that of the United States.

Course content
The AS Level is composed of two modules, which focus on Government and Politics of modern Wales and its context within the UK:
- Unit 1: Government in Wales and the UK
- Unit 2: Living and participating in a democracy
You’ll be assessed via externally set examinations. Students are expected to complete internally set formal assessments throughout the year.
You will have the opportunity to take part in political debates and participate in interviews with local and national media on current issues.
Students with AS or A Level Government and Politics have access to a wide range of possible career and higher education opportunities in such areas as Business, Economics, Law, Media, Journalism Philosophy and, of course, Politics. Students who choose not to go on to higher studies will have well developed transferable skills that will allow them to explore a wide range of employment opportunities.
Entry Requirements
To enrol, you’ll need a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including C grade minimum in English/Welsh First Language and Maths/Maths Numeracy.
It’s important that you have a lively and enquiring mind, as well as an interest in politics and current affairs.
Additional information
You’ll need to make financial contributions to the travel cost of educational visits.
After booking your course you have 14 days to change your mind and request a full refund. You can still request a refund after this date, but this will only be given if you meet the criteria from the college fee policy.
If your chosen course starts within 14 days of you booking your place, then the 14 day refund policy does not apply and any refund will be subject to the college fee policy.
