SQA HGV / LGV Transportation of Hazardous Goods (ADR)

In a nutshell

In line with the European agreement concerning the international carriage of dangerous goods by road, drivers who are carrying hazardous or dangerous substances must hold a valid ADR qualification.

Upon successful completion of this qualification you will be awarded with an ADR licence, valid for 5 years.

This course is available as part of a Personal Learning Account (PLA). PLA is an initiative from the Welsh Government which offers people the chance to access free, part-time courses with flexible and convenient learning that fits around their existing lifestyle (subject to eligibility).

This course is for...

Individuals currently employed by Tata Steel UK (sites in Wales) OR its wider Welsh supply chain (including at risk of redundancy), aged 19+, living in Wales.

Course content

This is a classroom-based course, typically run over 5 consecutive days. The course will equip you with the knowledge and skills so that you:

• are aware of the hazards in the carriage of dangerous goods
• can take steps to reduce the likelihood of an incident taking place
• can take all necessary measures for their own safety and that of the public and the environment to limit the effects of any incident that does occur

The course will cover the following categories:

• Core and packages modules
• All ADR classes, with exception of Radioactive and Explosive
• Tanks module

On the final days of the course you will sit exams to show you have the necessary knowledge and skills to pass the qualification.
