In a nutshell

Our HND's Level 5 in Engineering are designed in consultation with industry; and intended to link to local industry as much as possible, both in its content and in the mode of attendance.

The aim is to produce a highly qualified and knowledgeable engineer who can meet the requirements of industry. This is a specialist vocational programme with a strong work related emphasis.

Our Engineering HND courses provide a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in the sector. Nationally recognised by employers, the course also allows for further study at degree level and beyond.

This course is available as part of a Personal Learning Account (PLA). PLA is an initiative from the Welsh Government which offers people the chance to access free, part-time courses with flexible and convenient learning that fits around their existing lifestyle (subject to eligibility).

This course is for...

...everyone who falls into the above catagories, aged 19 +, living in Wales, employed, and earning less than £30,596 per year

…taking the next step in your career in the Engineering sector.

Course content

There’s a mixture of theory (lectures and tutorials) and practice (practical workshops) through core modules in electronics, electrical principles, control and instrumentation, PLCs and mathematics and optional modules including data communications and networks, power engineering and C programming for hardware applications.

A project in the second part of the course develops your group working skills and you will produce a working artefact to display in the engineering showcase event.

The course is delivered through a range of lectures, tutorials and practical workshops.

Learners will be assessed via assignments, coursework and class tests, as well as preparing and delivering presentations to develop your communication skills.
