In a nutshell

A Personal Learning Account is a new initiative from the Welsh Government. It is a free and flexible way to learn. The initiative will offer people the chance to access free, part-time courses that offer flexible and convenient learning around their existing lifestyle.

This qualification is vocationally based and aims to introduce learners to the retrofit sector of the construction industry. Successful completion of the qualification will provide learners with knowledge and understanding of the principles of retrofit.

The qualification is focused on the building insulation aspect of retrofit and is designed to support learners to progress onto the NVQ Diploma in Building Insulation and Treatments (Construction) Level 2. The qualification has been developed in partnership with the Retrofit Academy, the leading provider for education and training in the retrofit sector.

Individuals currently employed by Tata Steel UK (sites in Wales) OR its wider Welsh supply chain (including at risk of redundancy), aged 19+, living in Wales.

Course content

The Scope of Training identifies areas that must be covered during the delivery of this unit. This is the minimum that is expected but tutors are expected to include other areas, knowledge of which will benefit their learners, based on location, types of work available and from the tutor’s own professional experience.

Scope of Assessment:

This is a knowledge only unit and will be assessed by an end assessment consisting of 35 multi-choice questions. An assessment specification has been develop outlining the number of assessment questions for each assessment criteria.

  • Time allowed for the 35 questions is 50 minutes
  • The pass mark is 25 out of 35

Delivery will be a mixture of remote and classroom engagement.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for learners undertaking this qualification, however experience in the construction industry would be a benefit.

Candidates must have basic level of literacy, be in employment and have access to an observable working situation. Basic IT skills may be required but aren't essential.
