In a nutshell

If you work or want to work in engineering or manufacturing, this course is a great way of improving your knowledge and skills of fabrication and welding, covering a range of industry-recognised welding specifications.

This course is for...

… Anyone wanting to learn to weld to specifications and standards recognised by the engineering industry.

Course content

The course covers the Metal Active/Inert Gas Shielding (MAGS/MIGS), Manual Metal Arc (MMA), Tungsten Active/Inert Gas Shielding (TAGS/TIGS) and also Oxy-Fuel Burning welding processes, and you’ll need to complete a range of welded joints in various welding positions to the BSEN 4872 welding standard.

You’ll need to recognise and identify basic welding defects showing how to rectify and prevent any faults that can occur, and to adjust and set the conditions for welding in line with relevant specifications and weld procedures.

You’ll also need to prepare for welding by obtaining the necessary job instructions, materials, tools, equipment and any documentation, and check and inspect the welding equipment to make sure it’s in a safe working condition and suitable for the welding to be undertaken.

By the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge and understanding to apply appropriate welding techniques and procedures safely, understand the different welding processes and their applications as well as the equipment, materials and consumables used – after which you could move on to City & Guilds Level 3 Advanced Welding.

Entry Requirements

You’ll need Level 1 Fabrication & Welding

Additional information

You’ll need to provide your own Personal Protective Equipment (steel toe cap boots and fire retardant overalls).
