In a nutshell

Based on the nationally-approved standards of competence, this course will give you the core knowledge and skills you need when working with children and young people from birth to 19 years of age.

This course is for...

…anyone who wants to work in childcare, either employed or voluntary, in roles such as a Pre-school Assistant, Creche/Nursery Assistant or Childminder.

Course content

The WJEC/City & Guilds Children's Care Play Learning Development 'CORE’ qualification covers the skills needed across a diverse range of job roles including early years and social care, and is assessed through real work scenarios/case studies reflecting knowledge and understanding of the work concerned, as well as knowledge tests.

On successfully completing the course, you could progress on to Level 3 Children’s Care, Learning and Development or work in the care sector – for example as a care assistant, home care worker, domiciliary care worker or health care assistant in a residential care home, supported living project, day care establishment or people’s own homes.

Entry Requirements

You’ll need to be employed or in a voluntary work placement in an appropriate care setting for a minimum of one day a week – 40 days in total are required over the duration of the course. You’ll also need to obtain a DBS through your placement, which may incur a charge.
