This is a course for parents or guardians who wish to know how to best support their child whilst they are studying for their WJEC GCSE English Language.
The course will give you the tools and skills to help develop your child’s knowledge and help them prepare for the examinations at the end of their course.

… anyone who wants to understand what the GCSE English Language course will entail and how it is taught.
… all that are looking to find useful strategies and resources to best support children who are studying GCSE English Language.
You will explore the WJEC GCSE English Language qualification and the skills that are taught to pupils, whilst focusing on how you can support them in developing these skills.
This course has been designed to help parents and guardians build confidence and awareness of the subject.
The course will include the following components:
- Supporting with Reading: this unit will comprise of several sessions dedicated to specific reading skills such as comprehension, inference, analysis, and comparison. You will navigate how these skills are taught and the best way to embed these into your child’s learning.
- Supporting with Writing: this unit will focus on common writing errors made by young people. It will help you to understand these errors and give you clear strategies to address them at home. This unit will also look at extended pieces of writing and how to support your child in planning for the writing part of their exams.
- Supporting with Oracy: this unit will give you the support to build your child’s confidence in speaking and listening. It will focus on group discussion strategies and also look at how to prepare and deliver presentations to an audience.
This course is available for any parents or guardians who want to be proactive in supporting their children through the GCSE English Language. No formal entry requirements are needed.
The main focus of this course will be to provide you with the strategies needed to help your child the best you can in preparation for their GCSE English Language.
There is a possibility for this course to be delivered remotely; this could enable you to access the resources and materials from home rather than attending at one of our campuses.
