In a nutshell

In this Digital Fabrication Course, we’ll be going over the basics of 3D Printing. This course is designed for beginners to gain an understanding of how a 3D Printer works, and the process of going from a blank 3D Design Canvas, to a full physical print out.?The emphasis for the course is on building skills and confidence?using a range of 3D Printers and?Modelling Software?enabling you to get the most out your 3D Printer as a hobby or for business.?

... Anyone who wants to learn how to make models, tabletop games, crafts, product design and engineering using a 3D printer.

Course content

During this course, you'll cover:

  • Design?your?own 3D models in Autodesk Maya?and Blender?
  • Master?proper "Slicing" software settings for best print results?
  • Effectively level the print bed?
  • Set up?your?printer for proper first layer adhesion?
  • Find free ready-made files to download and print?yourself?
  • Get recommendations on which printer and "slicing" software to start with?

This course?will take you on a journey through the entire 3D Printing Process. From designing your own 3D model in a 3D Design Software, to then preparing it to print it in the “Slicing” software, and finally printing the object. This course will show you step by step from start to finish how the entire 3D printing process works. It might seem overwhelming, but it’s actually incredibly simple and easy to do.

You'll need regular attendance and an enthusiasm for the subject.?

Additional information

The School of Creative Arts is offering a suite of courses on a Wednesday evening at 6-9pm throughout the year. Each course running for 6 weeks, starting and ending on the same dates and the cost is £40.

The courses we are currently offering are; Jewellery Making, Ceramics, Photography, 3D Printing, Print Making, Textiles, Creative Wellbeing and Arts Practice, DJ Skills Using Ableton Live, Performing Arts and Singing for Pleasure.

Course Start Dates are as follows:

  • 09/11/2022 - 14/12/2022
  • 11/01/2023 - 15/02/2023
  • 19/04/2023 - 24/05/2023

For this particular course there will be an additional fee of £25 to pay for a Reel of PLA Filament.
