In a nutshell

This course is designed to give horse owners an opportunity to develop their skills in preparing horses for competition. You'll gain an insight into getting your horse ready for the show ring, with an understanding of the rules and requirements for different classes. You'll learn about the products available to get your horse looking its best and gain hand-on experience in preparing a horse for a competition.

Course content

You'll develop a variety of practical skills to prepare your horse or pony for the show ring.

These include:

  • Bathing (where appropriate)
  • Plaiting and Trimming
  • Quarter marking
  • The finer points of grooming
  • Grooming products to enhance your horse’s appearance

Entry Requirements

There are no formal requirements, although learners will need to be a minimum of 16 years of age.

Additional information

On successful completion, you'll gain a college certificate.

Learners will need to wear appropriate clothing, ideally jodhpurs and riding boots to attend the course and will need a riding hat that meets current safety standards for the final presentation of the horse.
