In a nutshell
For a career in the beauty industry, knowing the basics of applying make-up is essential – and this course will show you how to use a wide range of products, check that the final result is what the client wants and help you progress to a make-up course that could lead to employment.
This course is for...
…anyone wanting to work in the beauty industry, particularly specialising in make-up.
The VTCT Level 1 Award in Basic Make-Up Application teaches you basic make-up application, using foundation, concealers, powder, eye products, cheek products and lip products. You’ll be shown how to prepare for make-up, carry out a skin analysis and use consultation techniques, as well as checking that the final result is to the client’s satisfaction. This qualification is approved and supported by the Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority (HABIA), the standard setting body for hair, beauty, nails and spa qualifications.
You’ll need to be self-motivated, hardworking, have a friendly personality and a high level of personal presentation, and be committed to full attendance and punctuality for all sessions. You’ll be expected to work on realistic clients in a commercial environment and also be responsible for developing your own 'client base'.
You’ll be assessed using a combination of observed work, witness statements, audio-visual media, written and oral questions, assignments and case studies.
After this course, you could progress to many qualifications such as Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy General/ Beauty Therapy Make-Up.
You’ll be aged 16 or over with an interest in or working in the beauty industry, and need to be working at Levels 1 or 2 in Literacy.
The dress code for our salon is:
- Tunic with trousers and black shoes
- Hair neatly tied back off the face
- Nail extensions and varnish must not be worn
- No piercings – only a wedding ring can be worn
You’ll be expected to wear your beauty industry uniform or appropriate clothing and to buy a basic make-up kit at a cost of around £30 to £50.
After booking your course you have 14 days to change your mind and request a full refund. You can still request a refund after this date, but this will only be given if you meet the criteria from the college fee policy.
If your chosen course starts within 14 days of you booking your place, then the 14 day refund policy does not apply and any refund will be subject to the college fee policy.
