Entry Requirements
To register on this course, you’ll need to be aged 19 or older, and should have a minimum of Level 1 in English and Maths.
In a nutshell
The ideal accredited qualification for first aiders, covering a wide range of topics and skills from assessing an incident and recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness to first aid skills in CPR and use of an AED, providing first aid to a casualty who’s choking and dealing with external bleeding and hypovolaemic shock. In line with HSE guidance, it qualifies work place emergency first aiders for 3 years, after which you’ll need to retake the course. It’s also recommended that you refresh your knowledge annually.

What will I be doing?
A 1-day course, the knowledge and skills covered include:
- The role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Being able to assess an incident
- Providing first aid to an unresponsive casualty
- What to do if someone’s choking
- Helping a casualty with external bleeding
- Knowing how to provide first aid to a casualty who’s in shock
- Dealing with minor injuries
The qualification is assessed by two methods: practical observation throughout the course and a short response to set questions within a learner pack covering underpinning knowledge of first aid.
On successfully completing the course, you’ll receive a HABC Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work.
