At Coleg Gwent, we have an award-winning Students’ Union. We are:
Winner of Best NUS Wales FE Union of the Year 2014
Winner of Colleges Wales’ Learner Voice Award 2014, and
Winner of Colleges Wales’ Innovation in Learner Voice Award 2011
When you enrol at the college you automatically become a member of the National Union of Students (NUS) and can access the Students’ Union facilities and services.
You’ll also be able to buy an NUS Extra card for £12, which you’ll make back in no time through a whole range discounts both on the high street and online.
What does CGSU do?Representation We represent the views of learners within the college and with external organisations.
Campaigning We campaign on the issues that affect learners in order to make your college experience as positive as possible.
Support We support learners with any issues you may have, through the complaints and disciplinary procedures, and through the promotion of equality and diversity.
Training We run training events internally and externally and work to support Students’ Union officers. We run events to raise awareness of causes and issues, providing you with the opportunity to learn new skills and take part in clubs.
Get involved as a Coleg Gwent student, you can be sure that there are many ways to get involved, and that your voices and opinions will be heard.
As part of the SU you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Represent learners at NUS conferences

SU First Officer Vanessa Janes-Evans works full time to help all Coleg Gwent learners. Her role is to act as the First Officer of Coleg Gwent Students’ Union by:
- Encouraging learners to get involved with the Students’ Union
- Increasing Students’ Union participation in extracurricular activities
- Supporting and leading the activities of the Students’ Union on each campus
- Promoting equality and diversity across all campuses
- Setting up clubs and societies.
