Breaking new ground at Coleg Gwent
One of Wales’ biggest colleges has started construction on a brand new Learning Centre and has recently completed work on a brand new café at its Usk Campus.
The £2m Learning Centre (funded by the College) will house a library, classrooms, offices and provide interactive teaching spaces for students.
Alex Anderson, Head of Estates Development for Coleg Gwent, thinks the new buildings will be great assets to the campus and is looking forward to the Learning Centre being ready in 2018. “With the new Centre under construction and the brand new café that’s just opened, the Usk Campus continues to evolve. Investing in these important spaces shows our commitment as a college to the development of our students.”
To help the growth and updating of the campus, the Welsh Government provided the College with 50% (£1.64m) of the funding needed to create a brand new café onsite. After eight years, this building has now replaced an old portakabin and is an asset to the campus.
Education Secretary, Kirsty Williams said, “Our investment in this new space will provide students and staff the best environment and facilities possible for them to learn and achieve their full potential. They will have the benefit of this great area and as a government we are committed to continue to invest in our school and college buildings.”
The new café is now open onsite and the Learning Centre is expected to be ready for student enrolment in August 2018.
