In line with guidance provided by the HSE, the qualification supports/approves work place emergency first aiders for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course. In addition to this, it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually. The qualification is aimed at learners who wish to become emergency first-aiders in the workplace. This qualification meets the requirements for training emergency first aiders in those organisations that have identified that staff need to be trained to this level within their first aid needs assessment. In order to register on to this qualification, learners are required to meet the following entry requirements: · 16 years of age or above · It is advised that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in English and maths
This accredited qualification covers knowledge such as the roles and responsibilities of the first aider, how to assess an incident and recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness. The qualification also covers first aid skills in CPR and use of an AED, providing first aid to a casualty who is choking and dealing with external bleeding and hypovolaemic shock.
The qualification is assessed by the following two methods: 1. Practical observation The practical assessment is completed throughout the course delivery. 2. Written/oral questioning Learners must provide a short response to set questions within a learner pack covering underpinning knowledge of first aid. The qualification covers knowledge such as:- · The role and responsibilities of a first aider · Be able to assess an incident · Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty · Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking · Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding · Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock · Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries
This course is normally delivered over 1 day. Successful candidates will receive a HABC Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work. Other courses that may be of interest include: · Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work · Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid
