This course is suitable for candidates who are working in healthcare and have a great deal of technical skills and knowledge. They must work with minimum supervision and have a good record of safety, fault correction and ensuring work meets the required standard. There are no formal entry requirements but the candidate should be working as a Health Care Assistant or Phlebotomist (specialist clinical support workers who take blood samples from patients (usually in hospital) for testing in laboratories).
The purpose of this qualification is to guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills relating to the health workforce. This qualification confirms competence in a range of clinical healthcare support skills. It provides the skills and knowledge required to become competent in supporting Health Professionals (e.g. doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, healthcare scientists) to provide clinical healthcare.
You will complete twelve mandatory units that include: • Communication • Health and Safety • Duty of Care • Record keeping • Confidentiality • Safeguarding • Equality and inclusion • Person centred care • Infection control You will then select from a selection of optional units that are suitable to your job role.
The qualification is assessed in the workplace and can take six to eighteen months to complete. Each candidate is allocated an assessor who will advise and support them through the qualification, and work at a pace that suits you.
