BAE Systems Objective:BAE Systems is a global defence, aerospace and security company employing around 88,200 people worldwide. They offer a wide range of products and services that cover air, land and naval forces as well as advanced electronics, security, information technology and support services. BAE Systems recruited two apprentices that required accredited management training. The aim of the training was to develop the apprentices’ managerial abilities and skills over a period of three years, starting with ILM Level 3 and progressing to ILM Level 5 Award in Leadership & Management Skills.
Solution:The College helped BAE Systems plan the business needs and goals over a three year period and arranged on site training with Coleg Gwent Business for the following courses:

Result:Both apprentices are achieving excellent results as expected and are undertaking more management responsibilities in line with their training objectives.

Bon Bon Buddies Objective:Bon Bon Buddies was founded in 1993 and has grown to become Europe’s No. 1 provider of branded and licensed character confectionary. It boasts an exciting portfolio of licensed characters that include Disney, Spiderman, One Direction, Minions and many more. Bon Bon Buddies sought training to up-skill their workforce, reinforce previous training, promote career development and ultimately gain a competitive advantage.
Solution:Coleg Gwent Business and Bon Bon Buddies jointly performed a training analysis which identified training needs and a tailored training programme was proposed featuring the following courses:

Result:Within one week of the creative problem solving course Bon Bon Buddies had already implemented techniques to aid developing new brand concepts. Whilst the full impact of the training is still being measured, Bon Bon Buddies have recorded an increase in productivity, performance and efficiency.

Brace's Bakery Objective:Braces Bread is a brand leading business that produces a wide range of bread, sold to retailers, the food service and sandwich manufacturers. Braces have two bakeries, a state of the art bread plant bakery at Pen-y-fan producing 6,000 loaves per hour, a second bakery at Rogerstone in Newport and employs over 262 people. The company identified auditing and inspection as an area within staff training that was required to meet audit standards.
Solution:Coleg Gwent delivered a Level 3 Award in Effective Auditing and Inspection Skills course to 9 employees. This a National Award written and accredited by HABC aimed at supervisors, team leaders and line managers working in all sectors of the food industry and aims to equip staff with the skills necessary to undertake effective audits and inspections of food premises.
Coleg Gwent was able to provide the training using SPP funding.
Result:The staff that undertook the training found the course to be particularly useful and they would be able to use their newly acquired skills in the workplace on a regular basis.

Mollertech Ltd Objective:Möllertech Ltd is a global leader in the development and production of plastic components for the automotive industry. The company wanted to develop staff in specialist engineering skills and improve the engineering support within the manufacturing process.
Solution:Möllertech undertook CAD, TIG Welding and Basic PLC training with Coleg Gwent Business which was tailored to meet the needs of the organisation. The College helped Möllertech obtain Skills Growth Wales funding and provided most of the training on Möllertech’s premises.
Result:Since completing the training, the skills of the team have improved considerably and consequently Möllertech have improved the quality of the manufacturing process and output.

Penny & Giles Controls Ltd Objective:Penny & Giles are a global leader in the supply of joysticks, sensors and solenoids for industrial motion control. The company wanted to increase productivity by investing in staff training.
Solution:Penny & Giles gained work force development funding from the Welsh Government to help reduce the cost of training, and made arrangements for staff to complete the training during the working day.
The production engineering team, based at Cwmfelinfach, committed to flexible work based training for the Sigma Six Green Belt Award.
Result:Improvements included a radical change in the layout of the factory floor which increased production and saved the company £36,000.

Monmouthshire Housing Association Objective:Monmouthshire Housing Association (MHA) provides and manages affordable homes in Monmouthshire for people who need them. The Association manages and maintains around 3,600 homes and 290 leasehold properties, as well as large numbers of garages and other land around and within our estates.
MHA asked Coleg Gwent to provide IT training for staff using mobile technology in the workplace.
Solution:The IT training was combined with a programme of essential skills for employees, including literacy and numeracy.
Result:Since completing the training, weekly output of information has increased, enabling managers to allocate and plan work more effectively, meaning a better level of service is provided to MHAs tenants. Some MHA staff have also been employed to new areas of work and developed additional skills.

S4C/Boom Pictures CymruObjective:S4C is the only Welsh language television channel in the world. As a public service broadcaster, it commissions independent producers from across Wales to make the majority of its programmes. S4C broadcasts over 115 hours of programmes each week, including sport, drama, music, factual, entertainment and events, across a range of platforms, including online.
The Welsh broadcaster needed to train a group of individuals in traditional country skills for a living history programme focusing on Wales in the Edwardian era.
Solution:Before filming began, the cast got to grips with traditional country skills such as animal husbandry, butchery and food safety training organised by Coleg Gwent’s business team.
The cast joined Coleg Gwent tutors on the working farm at Coleg Gwent’s Usk Campus to familiarise themselves with some of the rural skills expected of gentry and servants at the time.
Result:Y Plas, which was broadcast in September and October 2013, followed the progress of eighteen individuals who left behind modern day life to experience living as servants and landed gentry in the Wales of 1910.

Faccenda Foods Objective:Faccenda Foods are one of the UK's largest food businesses with a turnover of £400m and 3,000 employees across the UK. The company wanted to develop the knowledge and skill set of food production staff in Abergavenny with the help of Coleg Gwent.
Solution:The College helped Faccenda Foods gain work force development funding through the Welsh Government to help reduce the cost of the training, and made arrangements for staff to complete the courses during the working day.Staff committed to workplace training from Coleg Gwent for the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Level 3 and Level 4 Food Safety.
Result:The training provided the learners with a thorough understanding of food safety procedures, and emphasised the importance of monitoring staff and controls. Employees were able to share their best practice knowledge throughout the workforce.
