Local MP Chris Evans teamed up with companies across Islwyn to launch the Islwyn Work Experience Programme at Coleg Gwent on Friday 7 June.
The scheme, the first of its kind in Wales, was officially launched at Coleg Gwent's Crosskeys Campus.
Employers from across Islwyn signed up to the programme, which offers 18-24 year olds an 8 week placement with a local company and practical experience of a workplace.
Mr Evans said: "Since inviting businesses in Islwyn to take part in the programme in recent weeks I have been overwhelmed by the positive response of local employers.
"The scheme is the first of its kind in Wales and gives young people an opportunity to undertake a locally based work placement and help boost their CVs."
The Islwyn Work Experience Programme was launched at Morels Restaurant at Coleg Gwent's Crosskeys Campus, with Coleg Gwent catering students providing refreshments.
