Performing arts

There are many varied roles for individuals within music and performing arts, from singing, acting, playing instruments, dancing and composing to off stage roles including lighting and sound engineering.

Music and Performing Arts courses at Coleg Gwent offer a lively and creative environment in which to study and work. The courses have been the starting point for many successful careers and lifelong interests in the arts.

Music courses

Music courses offer students the opportunity to develop a range of musical skills across styles and genres. Preparing and rehearsing for live performance gives students the   opportunity to work with other musicians on cover versions and original material. They are encouraged to develop their practical skills both as soloists and in ensemble settings. They are also encouraged to broaden their range of performance experience so will work on projects in a range of musical styles.

A broad range of music courses are available at Crosskeys and Ebbw Vale campuses. Our recording and music technology suites offer an excellent working environment with silent based studios, digital recording studios and computer based music technology suites.

Drama, dance & musical theatre

Drama and musical theatre encourage students in their development of a range of skills such as singing, technical skills, dance and acting. The courses nurture practical, creative and communicative skills in almost equal measure. Classes are taught by experienced practitioners and you will benefit from a wide range of visits to performances to broaden and enrich your studies.

Every student performs in several productions throughout the year, ranging from contemporary musicals to classical dramas.

The environment within music and performing arts is one of discipline, hard work and
enjoyment.
