This practical qualification is designed for managers seeking to gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to coach and mentor people as part of their normal working role. It can also be an ideal starting point for a career in coaching and mentoring. The ideal candidate will have management responsibility and have access to others, either in their own workplace or other organisations, who would benefit from coaching. Anyone interested in undertaking this qualification will be asked to contact the tutor to have an informal discussion with the tutor about the course and its suitability.
This programme will enable candidates to learn about coaching and mentoring as powerful development tools; Understand roles and responsibilities and develop practical skills, tools and techniques in coaching. The programme requires you to put these new skills into practice and analyse and assess own coaching ability through a reflective development plan.
By the end of the programme you will be able to: • Describe what is meant by good practice in workplace coaching and mentoring, including roles and responsibilities of a workplace coach. • Demonstrate how to coach individuals using recognised coaching models through effective communication and feedback skills. • Coach three or more individuals in the workplace for at least 36 hours, and compile appropriate records. • Explain how to manage potential barriers and conflict in a coaching relationship and explain strategies to overcome these. • Conduct a reflective but evidenced analysis of your coaching practice, knowledge, skills and behaviour.
The course will take place over a 19 week period. Days 1 to 4 will be delivered one day per week for 4 weeks. Candidates will then be asked to carry out coaching sessions in their workplace of at least 18 hours duration during a 6 week period Day 5 will included individual supervision and tutorial support based on the workplace coaching that has been undertaken Candidates will then be asked to carry out further coaching sessions in their workplace of at least 18 hours duration during a 6 week period. Day 6 will include individual supervision and tutorial support based on the workplace coaching that has been undertaken Day 7 will be delivered at our venue. Candidates must complete four written assignments of approximately 3,000 words each as well as provide evidence of workplace coaching in order to achieve this qualification. Therefore candidates must have access to at least three suitable coachees in a workplace setting.
